Egypt2600 and the History of 26002600 Meetings exist as a forum for all interested in technology to meet and talk about events in technology-land, learn, and teach. Meetings are open to anyone of any age or level of expertise." 2600 Meetings exist all over the world and bring together people of all ages interested in computer security, electronic gadgetry, communications, privacy, and technology exploration in general. Historically the name "2600" comes from the US. It is the frequency that was used to bluebox in the US, when it still worked. A bluebox was basically a box that phreaks made, as it allowed them to control equipment at the telephone company, and get free calls. This is the first attempt at introducing this type of meeting in Egypt. Hopefully it will prove to be an enjoyable social event for locals and will get people sharing information and ideas. It may even help push Egypt forward technologically. These meetings exist without any political, religious, racial affiliation, motivation or interest. 2600 does not condone anything illegal as well. Remember hacking can be done legally too. However the group is ethical and is not looking for trouble. The hacker community can do without the bad press created by illegal activities, please don't encourage any. Information, no matter of what, is the purpose of these meetings. Meetings mainly serve the purpose of getting people to benefit from one another in terms of knowledge and to get people of similar interests together. They are quite a social event too. Anyone is allowed to attend these meetings, no matter what age or level of expertise. There is no obligation, commitment or fees to pay. So come check it out! There is no single body responsible. Everything is run by volunteers without a formal structure. 2600 produce a seasonal magazine in the US. To our knowledge it is no where on sale in Egypt. If you know of somewhere where it is sold in Egypt contact us. |
